Jim Phillips is proud to bring The Spinner’s Web, Storyteller’s Tour to Lafayette, Louisiana. Cité des Arts is the location for the first series of Storyteller’s events in celebration of The Bicentennial of Louisiana Statehood.   Storytelling is a very important human activity.

Our brains are hardwired to make sense in terms of story.  The reason storytelling is so popular is that it feeds our craving for connection and social change, and, may even have an affect on human health.

The cluster of spinners, some of South Louisiana's finest and most famous storytellers, are:

* Barry Ancelet, storyteller and folklorist

* Mitchell Reed, storyteller and musician with BeauSoleil

* Sally O. Donlon, storyteller and educator

  1. *Hogie Seibert, storyteller and artist

* Bill Matthews, storyteller & chef

  1. *Jim Phillips, storyteller and producer

Friday, September 28th is the next evening of storytelling.

“Telling and listening to stories is the way we make sense of our lives,” said Dr. Thomas K. Houston, lead author of an important study correlating storytelling to lowering blood pressure and a researcher at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester and the Veterans Affairs medical center in Bedford, Mass. “That natural tendency may have the potential to alter behavior and improve health.”
