New Voices, Cité's very own Children's Theatre Camp, is back in the works. The newly renovated camp will focus on the craft of storytelling, working on the fundamentals of theatre and acting, using movement, spoken word, and playwriting to improve self-expression. Our goal is to teach children not only how to act, but how to become successful contributors to the exciting and limitless world of theatre.

The camp will run Monday thru Friday for three weeks— June 14th-July 2nd, with a culminating performance Saturday July 3rd.

Age groups and times are as follows (please use the grade your child will be in for the 2010-2011 school year):

2nd – 5th grades     9:00am   –  11:30am
6th – 8th grades      12:00pm –  2:30pm
9th – 12th grades    3:00pm   –  5:30pm*

*The oldest group will focus more on playwriting. Accepts both actors and writers.

This year, New Voices will be run by Cité's own Jarin Schexnider, along with Faith Griffiths. Jarin is a recent graduate of Bennington College, in Bennington, Vermont. She has a degree in Drama with a focus in writing and directing physical theatre. Faith Griffiths is currently attending Bennington College, working on a degree in Elementary Art Education. Collectively, the two have worked with Children's Theatre groups in Lafayette, Dallas, Washington D.C., Burlington, VT, and Chicago. Faith went to Baking School and Jarin travelled cross-country with a plastic riding horse as her co-pilot.

Cost of the camp is $125, which includes supplies and cost of performance. Click here for a printable application, or you can pick one up at Cité des Arts, located at 109 Vine Street. Spots are limited and on a first come first serve basis, so don't delay!
