About The Event
Start your Mardi Gras weekend celebrations Saturday, February 10, at Cité des Arts with Hot Grits, from Beaumont, TX, and the Krewe of Couche Couche Secret Revolutionary Ball! Cité des Arts is right on the parade route, so you can be in the middle of it all! Watch the Krewe of Bonaparte Parade from the comfort of Cliff’s Bar at Cite des Arts (starts rolling at 6:30 p.m.) and then stay for the Secret Revolutionary Ball and Hot Grits in the theater at 8:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $12 and include exclusive access to clean bathrooms and drink specials in Cliff’s Bar at Cité des Arts.
Hot Grits started in a downtown Beaumont jam room as an idea, then became a side project, then finally, a completely new band unto itself. They are a 5-piece group from varied parts of Southeast Texas and draw influences from a wide batch of artists to produce Funk, Soul, Jazz, Electric Blues, 60's and 70's Psychedelic Rock infused original music. Hot Grits is Latricia Badgett -Vocals/Lyrics, Bryan LaCroix - Guitar, Blake Pursley - Bass, Caleb Fontenot -Keys and Gavin Norwood – Percussion
The Krewe of Couche Couche Marching Trash Can Band is Lafayette’s original marching Krewe. This high noise, low precision marching group was founded in 1979 by students from UL’s (then USL’s) English and Theater Departments. The Krewe of Couche Couche has marched in the afternoon “Independent Parade” every year for the past 44 years.
