About The Event
Aristophanes’ “Lysistrata” is an influential ancient Greek comedy that diverged from the conventions of Old Comedy and set the foundations for modern satire. This “war of the sexes” comedy uses humor, exaggeration and irony to critique the Peloponnesian War and societal norms of the time. This play was first performed in 411 B.C. and continues to be produced and adapted on stage and film to this day.
The new Cité des Arts Readers Theater Series is designed to bring plays from the classical theater to the contemporary audience in a fun, relaxed, and accessible manner. With a cast of very talented local actors, it is the goal of the series to educate and inspire our audiences. To dispel the idea that these plays are inaccessible or meant only for academics. The plays in the series were written for the masses and still reverberate in our modern times.
